Combine reserved juice from apricots with spices, sugar and butter in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 20 minutes.
Puree apricots in blender and add to saucepan. Remove cinnamon sticks and cloves. Heat thoroughly. If desired, thicken mixture with a little cornstarch.
